One thing is for sure–not everyone can spell stromuhr. And Ohio teen Anamika Veeramani proved she’s one of those who can when she won the Scripps National Spelling Bee by teaching everyone how to spell it.
So what is a stromuhr anyway? It’s an instrument for measuring the flow of viscous substances.
Veeramani expressed her happiness on winning the contest, saying, “I’m really, really happy. This is one of the best moments of my life,” the 14-year-old said.
Last year, Veeramani placed 5th. With her recent win, Ohio is now the state with the most spelling bee winners with 9.
273 spellers ranging in age from 8 to 15 competed in the 83rd Scripps National Spelling Bee which began Thursday.
The final rounds on Friday began with 10 contestants. Words such as ochidore, a shore crab, and terribilita, a word applied typically to the art of Michelangelo describing the power and grandeur of his work were spelled.
